This tumbler is a gathering of herpetology, zoology, fieldwork and other animal/nature related observations by me. I'm a student earning a degree in wildlife biology, working in a natural history museum preserving animals for future generations, spending countless hours in the field herping, birding and observing and enjoying documenting my finds to teach others about the wonders of the natural world.

Gluing plant specimens… I collected and identified 100 California plants for this collection, I’m hoping to finish gluing with enough time to take pictures of them all in case my professor loses/damages some while trying to grade 1500+ plant specimens over the period of a week.

This is going to bother me all week unless someone can help me out.
There’s this plant growing in my backyard and I’m planning on replacing it with alfalfa… but I need to know if its edible/should be saved or if I can just compost it.
I can’t find my camera, but this is a good representation of what it looks like (color matched).
I’m in north central California (near Sacramento), and it just appeared in my otherwise dead back lawn a few months ago (no water/my dog ate the lawn).
I finally noticed it since I’m planning a garden (more on that later… gonna probably make a tumblr to track it). I know I’ve seen it before and I know its considered a weed… and those leaves are SO distinctive that someone might know what it is.
WHAT IS THIS??

PERHAPS this is the largest dandelion plant ever? I should probably let it bloom… doubt the rabbit would like being a test subject for seeing if this is edible.
