As I pulled up I was greeted by yellow-billed magpies and acorn...

Paper authorship ethics question: I'm curious what...
Hi everyone, I have an ethics related question that recently came up and I thought was quite interesting and am curious what you think (even if you don’t do research yourself): A student does a basic research project as part of their senior thesis of their undergraduate program (design through implementation), they receive help from a professor who provides the study animals, and helps with...

Today both pepper my baby tegu and my year-old gopher snake died unexpectedly… No idea what happened to either of them, as they were both seemingly healthy when I last handled them a day or two ago. I think it might have been the cold night last night, as those two were the only ones without night heat and the heater hasn’t been keeping the house at the right temperatures lately....

umzoology: BAD NEWS. In case you haven’t heard, the Chicago Field Museum is preparing to slash its scientific research budget by $3million, (that’s $3,000,000) and as a result are planning on cutting many curatorial positions. As a person who hopes to go on to work in a professional museum someday, a…

Guitars, Feathers, and Forests... What Do They All...
usfwspacific: Photo: wikimedia, creative commons By Russ MacRae Gibson Guitar Corp. settled a criminal enforcement case with the United States recently over their alleged illegal importation of rosewood and ebony from Madagascar and India to make guitar fingerboards. Fingerboards, by the way, are the top portion of the neck of the guitar where, as you might expect, the player presses...
